I was born and brought up in the Sperrin Mountains in Derry, Northern Ireland.
I studied Design at University of Ulster in Belfast 1987-1990. I am currently completing my research towards a PhD at Birkbeck College, University of London on contemporary poetry and poetics, The final chapter of my thesis is exploring Action as Presence or Presence in Action in the poetry of Frank O’Hara through for example comparisons of ‘Duration as sites of exchange’ in his work and that of the sculptor Richard Long.
I work as part of the Contemporary Poetics Research Centre (CPRC) there, on the web journals PORES and READINGS, amongst other things. I am a Co-Editor of Veer Books as well as being a member of the poetry collective London Under Construction.
My last publication was Shuddered from Veer Books 2009 which as a work admitted the cross over or collaboration of influences with the other two authors of that book Stephen Mooney and Piers Hugill.
My most recent exhibition was ‘Abair’, Gaelic for ‘to speak’, at An Gailearaí in Donegal April 9th-30th, consisting of a short text film which acted as the score for a performance/writing piece presented on the opening night of the show. It was a site specific piece in response to a question set by the gallery as to how the sensibility of the Gealtacht might be available in Contemporary Art. It will further undergo transitions as a book and web version.
My current book is IS ing and is both a transcription and response to improvised read/writing performances I’ve given over the last four years. I am working on a series of paintings in response to the book INRI by Raul Zurita, translated into English by William Rowe.
