Šimon Sykora is a painter of everyday horrors who observes how things (do not) come and go / happen. The world Sykora depicts appears as if glimpsed through a hole in a wall, from behind a fence or as if one were peering through a curtain or veil. Distorted figures are placed in settings that are often abstract in manner. On one hand, he uses painting as a long-term process of reduction. On the other hand, he tries to balance this concentrated approach with slightly haphazard compositions where figures nearly soak up into their surroundings.
